law that you are looking at there that's called the flowchart you're going to hear you just talk about the flows are that's the flowchart and then we are going to release stress um good so um that means it is a help your child from remote to fourth grade um so data in the back that up last less than 1% of third graders across the state or retained less than 1% of the fourth graders across the state are retaining most students are promoted by the the other thing to think about is there is really only 1 way to be retained and it is completely controllable by the point the only way to paint by talk is to be required to go to summer school and not go to Sunday if you're driving happens to end up having to go to summer school based on their uh scores make sure they go to sleep they'll go ahead it is a promotion Hall and we are going to pull all of our resources we need lots and lots of times we are constantly watching the third grade list seeing who needs more our third grade teachers are amazing at changing and flexing as we go change groups up to make sure their students get what they need so to clarify the third grade promotion law is only about being um it does not include the map portion it is not include the writing portion it is only the multiple choice cards um the ELA t um as we talk you're going to need to understand 2 different schools 2 different schools will determine how your child could possibly go to work right the first grade is the Task Force that's the first thing we look at yeah as parents you can already get on the tap portal and you should have awareness so you can have awareness of what your child's score was on the secondary tap we looked at that score gives us a good indication of what they might be going into third grade detect scores are exceeding met approaching ambula say it 1 more time exceeding met approaching love we want all of our students even without a law to be met and exceed the second is for you need to be aware of about the whole year is their reading composite School you might know that as there are ti score that score is a a composite score of fluency vocabulary comprehension um different things for younger kids but it takes all 3 of those together a lot of adverts of those 3 there's an algorithm but it gives us what your child's foundational reading scores are in other words in the reports can they have basic comprehension are they what do you want to see on that sport is a 50 and a 50 means at break level uh you've been given that sport 3 times a year since January and then at the end of the year so you are going to get into this for from September be very aware that it drops free from possible score throughout the year you 50 or higher so the way to have works this promotion law works is that we're going to take the Decap take bullish um the very asking the school this timeline is crazy it really doesn't make sense to any of us because it is what it is the very last of the school on the Monday usually where when you get a list of raw scores and I'm going to order Network seated and he scored a coaching or pull up remember that exceeded your goal that's what you want once we get those scores if we're going to call every single third grade families every single 1 we're going to tell you hey your child passed that means they support the metrics or we're going to say they need to retake the test that's the first pathway you take the test now this is the cool part about retaking the test again there's no writing it's shorter and our teachers have come up with an amazing um class 2 weeks Persians have more and more kids every year passing on the retake they get to try to test um the shortages of that um then on Thursday maybe Wednesday for lucky a singer Thursday at that very last week of school they're going to take retake the test on Wednesday the very last day school really just but on that Wednesday they'll take that test and get scored within about 24 to we're going to call those families again and then just say hey your child has or then we have to choose the pathway that means even on their root test they still scored a coaching or below once we tell you your child has passed and they've scored left or exceed you're not going to hear from us again it's over once that again but if your child is born approaching then you have to choose the pathway those are what is on that little piece of paper you're looking at the first thing you have to either is that Marine composite score if your child has confidence then they're going to get 1 more year of tutoring and they're done the state law kind of just says hey these kids they're going to be where they need um there's some pretty cool data how that that's actually working out very strongly um how if your child is the scores that were approaching and is below 50 um your windows kind of like Pathways bugs 40 to 50 we can with your permission and with we can uh appeal to the state to let your child go ahead and pass they'll get another year of tutoring that again the so 40 is the very lowest on that regular process where that they can get it where they can move on to fourth grade with another year or 2 3 now below 40 a impossible 40 and approaching gets a little trickier because of the sooner the storm with the process score below 40 then there's still a move to fourth grade there but everyone else they're still going to get another year of tutoring but at the end of fourth grade they have to make you know it's called category growth the good thing about having the growth is it's a little bit easier that original cut off the cheese you had to get this number to pass out of the pros based on your child they have to make a Year's worth of growth plus a little extra um there's a basic statistical formula if you get on the stage website you can actually look at the form of the for yourself and use the Tennessee portal to uh get those numbers sent to you but um at the end of fourth grade we'll have to wait and then usually comes in in the middle of July where we will know that your child make the adequate cut for so truthfully other is not going to summer school a retention really doesn't happen to fourth grade but then we get some Global control let's say your child has scored approaching um they are below all that 40 percentile we as a team can convene will include you in this conference and we can decide as a fourth grader um whether um they get some food to fit right now so we hit some local control they get to fourth grade um let's see we're missing in okay um now if we get below if a child scores below there are no patterns there are no Pathways the reading composite does not matter if your child supports your love it is required some you can only miss 2 things if you don't go to the summer school or do this 3 days or more summer school then the retention in third grade is automatic the only way to be retained in their greatest do not let a summer school or keep the attendance requirement um score does not matter um 1 other pathway you would have had um if your child is scoring the as you can tell in the summer school um they can go to summer school they can challenge the test again which is even shorter than the 1 during the school year if they make their adequate course for a summer school they're to go 1 to 43 several of our parents have started shooting both of them they'll put their kid in summer school to get that extra support help them out in fourth grade um and then we also put them in the itself if you think about this as how do I get what my child needs it's not nearly as scary anymore um all right um so who doesn't need to be worried um it's definitely a promotional but this is my encouragement to you dig in alright third grade it doesn't it doesn't matter it it's hard third grade guitar is the crossover kind of reading to learn um or learning to read to read each 1 it's hard the standards are hard and it's a hard year um but you again um if you have previously been told that your child would benefit from a retention in elementary earlier Elementary pay 1 and 2 not today that was a sign that we not let the child's going to be on Target and if summer school has been recommended to your child kindergarten first or second that's a got to dig in um if you get your password is approaching or below you have got to dig in this year it's possible we have lots and lots of great stories my main recommendation is these labels work really hard to make sure your child's ready when they send over Do It um you're going to see the spelling word tone do it now while we see someone's happening his parents go like I'm looking spelling because it's a little easier you got to do the other work too you got to do both of them together because the spelling word is going to have to double foundations of the homework you've got to keep up with the keep this in mind that 50th reading composite score he gets harder to make it through but that 50% off score is harder and harder to keep as the year goes so don't see a 50 when you get that score here in a few weeks all they know you're barely where you need to be you're going to have to dig in to keep your child making that unless you um this is Mark here specially that you're on that list on the list I gave you all of those that you know were watching him especially those this is not the year where we've long is for um we got 4 more kids who missed Fridays and Mondays for travel ball it's not for you for that you have got to dig in with us um something else to think about lots of parents will maybe pull their pin on a test day so when you get to a test day you your child looks at you so they're making up a test but they're also instruction there is a double meaning in this testing so and and the teachers have to stay on a schedule they are required by the county to keep up the pace they've got to get the test when they get the test so didn't this is the year for nearly perfect attendance uh make sure your child is rescued um you got to do some positive stuff talk motivation we hand in hard place um push through the tears in my head which are making me do the homework for the first time maybe but it is worth it it pays off we have lots of success stories from that anything else do you have any questions for us we're not going to just so you feel homework so Walmart will come home um homework and home home on Fridays and it's due the following Friday so you have a whole week to get it done and a weekend um we don't expect offering made more than like 20 minutes a night there will be some words everybody there will be some you already work there will be some amount of work so it is a um but like I said it shouldn't take much you have to get it done um we can't take grades on more we do a homework party um at the end of each quarter where we're with students just get points collect points and try to get homework and then we have like a arcade Square where they can spend their points on prizes at the end of each quarter so they're not punished they're not doing their homework but they're just recorded um but like this season said The more you can do your homework at home the better off you're going to be all throughout their anything else we've got a great track record um yes it's stressful but it is really amazing what broke up and bubble down I want to cancel this um yeah promotional wall and we all kind of brush the ones that got a wall um it's stressing for us it's stressing for you all but if you kind of I love your perspective on it um the goal is that your child's reading on level by the end of third grade in all of the educational pendulums we have a college reading or how to do you know how to you all know a few years the 1 thing that has never changed is that a child should be reading by the end of the third grade that I can make that make sense to you because you all know that puberty start speaking in or out third grade and until that time the brain is busy setting involved in learning and kind of break the brain's Focus and it just doesn't matter as well we're always learning but those big years of learning are 83 the secondary hurdle is 6th grade the last hurdle that you want you want if you don't make a payment you want your child when you buy a sixth grader third through sixth is really hard because you're not allowed I have a child who cannot learn to read the sixth grades right what I do but you got to do it again now is the time you don't do it this year your family doesn't dig in and get it fixed this year going to make you work a little bit in the years to come so just give me 1 to 1 the will be around
